These select pieces of bamboo are harvested, cut, inspected and dried via dehumidifying drying kiln. The drying takes about two weeks at temperatures reaching 130 degrees drying the blanks down to about 6% moisture. Then I sort them into their sizing storage bins before offering them to other flute making artisans to make Native American or other types of flutes. This bamboo species is "Bambusa Textilis Gracilisis". It is remarkably strong, straight with long distances between whirls which makes them perfect for flute making. Simply choose the size, length and quantity you want from the charts below. Then add them to your shopping cart and fill out the order specifications to calculate your shipping costs. PayPal is our preferred and very safe method of payment.
We select the older stalks to cut from each groups of bamboo to give you the best product available.
I tape each cut area along the Stalk to then cut with my miter saw into blanks. Once cut, I remove the tape from each end and prepare them for the drying process. This used to be just letting them air dry but now I've built a dehumidifying drying kiln.
I've built a dehumidifying drying kiln to properly dry the flute blanks to give my customers a better product in a more timely manner. This drying kiln uses a dehumidifier, a fan and a heater when necessary to reach the desired dryness. I wanted to build this to give my customers the best product for their money.
Once cut and stacked within my drying kiln rack, I monitor the drying process with electronic monitoring system that shows me the temperature and humidity within the kiln. Once the air conditions with in the kiln reaches approximately 130 degrees and 20% or less humidity, the blanks are ready to remove leaving them at about 6% moisture content. This process has shown to take about two weeks depending on the quantity of blanks I have in the kiln.
Flute blanks are measured from end to end for lengths. The mouthpiece area is approximately 4" from the first whirl that creates the sound channel and hole. Diameters are sized as inside diameters at the foot (far end) of the flute blank.
I have a measuring board that allows me to quickly size the blanks and store them in my storage bins.
These are my storage bins by diameter and lengths into my sizes for sale.
Once I've received your order, I pull the blanks, prepare the bamboo birds for each and carefully wrap each order in foam rubber sheets for shipment.
I use the US Postal service for shipping of flute blanks. This is the triangle tube they come in. Shipping has to be to a delivery address, not a post office box.
The Bamboo store can be found at the top and bottom of the page. Review your desired sizes and add them to your shopping cart.
