About Us

In the beginning:

My wife is a flutist (Buffalo Woman Flute Music).  She is extremely good  and has many flutes she plays professionally at events.  (see her CD cover).

Since she had found her calling, I thought I would grow my own bamboo to make her flutes.

My first cutting of material yielded me 100 very long stalks and by the time I cut them into blanks, I had over 800 blanks.  I knew right away that I would never make that many flutes so I decided to offer them to other flute makers.

And that is how I came to supply other craftsmen and women like yourself.

So, now you know…

My Bamboo

I planted "Bambusa Textilis Gracilisis" back in 2010.  It grows very tall and from small to large diameters with long distances between whirls. It's remarkably strong and very round in shape. My bamboo is planted and growing creek side so it has all the water it needs to produce very good flute blank stock. You can select the size and length you want for your flute making on my BAMBOO STORE page. Prices and shipping information can be developed there as well. A shopping cart will be prepared for you to finalize your purchase.

Cutting and Drying

I cut my bamboo to provide other craftsmen and women the materials they need to make their flutes with.  Once the long shoots are selectively cut, I tape the cutting edges and cut them with my miter saw.

I have now built a dehumidifying drying kiln to speed and condition the flute blanks.  This process takes about two weeks and dries the flute blanks in about 130 degree temperature down to about 6% humidity content. It has proved to produce a much better flute blank than previously provided.

Sorting for size and length

I have multiple sizes available for purchase. The prices vary according to the sizes and lengths. Once dried, my flute blanks are stored in their respective size and length storage bins for filling customer orders.
